Dave Rexroth is an American meteorologist who is working for WXYZ as the chief meteorologist since August 2010. Also, he supplies the most recent daily weather updates and forecasts for all of southeast Michigan during the 5, 6, 7, and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined the ABC 7 Detroit team in 2000. Upon joining the station, he initially served as a meteorologist for Channel 7’s “Action News This Morning” and “Action News at Noon”. During the celebration on the 4th of July in 2014, Rexroth sustained an eye injury on his left eye. This happened when he went to check on the fireworks that he had struggled with its ignition. Unfortunately, the firework blew up in his face and he hurt his left eye leaving him with sight in one eye. Also, he adorns a prosthetic eye and wears glasses with a bifocal lens on one eye in order to protect his right functioning eye.
Moreover, he undergoes annual checkups with Nelson too at Kellogg Eye Center to sustain his vision and eye health. Further, he uses various techniques when driving to cover his blind spots. For instance, he points his nose to the left side of the windshield to see approaching lanes better and better his field of vision. “I’m extremely diligent about checking my blind spot, so to speak, and amazingly I’m a more efficient and safer driver,” he voices.
