After completing his undergraduate studies in 1979, he became its alumnus with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Journalism. During his undergraduate years in college, he served as a football player for the Chippewas as a walk-on before focusing on academics and working toward his eventual career goals.

He joined the ABC 7 Detroit News team in 1988. Additionally, he has served the station for more than 3 decades. Upon joining the station in 1988, he first served as a sports reporter.

However, it was in 2004 that he made the permanent change to news following his service as a weekend sports anchor for years. In 2012, he received a Silver Circle from NATAS Michigan for his service and achievements over 25 years in the broadcast industry. Also, he serves as a 4 time Emmy awarded journalist. Most recently, for WXYZ-TV’s live broadcast of the “Detroit Firestorm” in 2010.

Prior to WXYZ, he served in Southfield at WJBK and in Lansing WLNS(formerly WJIM). Furthermore, he has experience in radio, as he broadcasted sports for WJR-AM and CKLW-AM in Detroit. For a number of seasons, he served as the radio play-by-play voice of the University of Detroit basketball. In 2007, he attained an Emmy for “Best Weekend Newscast.” On a side note, he shared the award with co-anchor, Glenda Lewis and producer, Tim Kochenderfer.

Additionally, he attained an Emmy for“Breaking News” for Channel 7’s live nonstop coverage of fires in Highland Park and for the series, “March Madness,” an inside viewpoint at the Michigan state high school basketball tournament. Moreover, he generated and served as a host of “Golf Michigan,” which was telecasted on WXYZ for four years. The program commemorated the golf industry in Michigan state

. Also, he has served as a host for many news and sports specials on WXYZ. For instance, the Woodward Dream Cruise, Light Up the Season, and the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade. Throughout his career, he has provided coverage for three Super Bowls, the World Series, NHL, and NBA Finals, and major golf championships. For example, the Masters, U.S. Open, and Ryder Cup matches.

Else, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Rainbow Connection, which supplies wishes for Michigan children with deadly diseases. For a two-year term, he served as the president of the Board of the non-profit. Further, he served the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association as president. On top of that, he served a charity golf outing for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan for more than a decade as chairperson.

LewAllen volunteers his time on behalf of many Detroit regional charities.
