In July 2001, Charlesworth was interviewing Dr. Bruce Katz, a dermatologist on air on WABC, talking about liposuction. Bruce noticed a mark on Charlesworth’s face and thought it was basal cell carcinoma. Charlesworth said that she had always thought that it was just a pore. After the interview, Charlesworth went for a check-up and her docs confirmed that it was a biopsy. In February 2006, she went for skin cancer surgery.
She was cut around affected the area, and a margin of normal skin was left behind. The piece that was cut was dyed and frozen for 45 mins, before being checked under a microscope. The docs said that it took whole 2 hours for all the skin cancer to be withdrawn. The docs used Mohs surgery, which errs on the side of caution. The surgery ultimately was successful and Charlesworth recovered.
