Chris began his career in journalism after completing an internship at KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa, while still in high school. Since then, his professional endeavors have carried him across the nation and abroad. Chris was chosen to work as a producer for CNN in Iowa for the historic first-in-the-nation 2008 presidential caucuses.
Chris was tasked with traveling full-time with the presidential hopeful’s campaign to cover his historic road to the presidency as then-Senator Barack Obama emerged from the Hawkeye State at the top of the field of Democratic candidates. Since then, he has worked as a CNN reporter and producer in Minneapolis and New York, covering issues such as an Ohio-based Amish beard-cutting sect. To the Titanic’s 100th anniversary, which featured live coverage from the North Atlantic Ocean. Chris most recently worked as an E.W. Scripps national correspondent headquartered in Denver, where his work was broadcast in numerous regional areas.
He covered a wide range of topics while at Scripps, from refugees seeking asylum at both U.S. borders to every kind of natural and man-made catastrophe. Chris is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who contributed to CNN’s 2008 presidential election coverage and won a Peabody Award. Welch has also worked at KTIV-TV as a reporter, photographer, and Editor from 2003 to December 2005. During his time there he worked in videography, video editing, and writing.
