Since 2004 Cabrero has been a reporter for KSL. He has covered several high-profile Utah stories throughout his time in Salt Lake City, including the Susan Powell missing person case, the Trolley Square shootings, and the Crandall Canyon mine collapse. The deadly California wildfires, Hurricane Katrina from the Gulf Coast, and the earthquake tragedies in both Haiti and Nepal are just a few of the national and international topics he has covered for KSL that have ties to Utah.
Alex has received 12 Emmy Awards, including a National Emmy for his coverage of a standoff in Tennessee. Additionally, he was awarded an Emmy in 2016 for his work as the Rocky Mountain region’s top local TV news reporter. Overall, Alex has received more than 50 honors from the Utah Broadcasters Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. He covered 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2014 Sochi, 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2018 PyeongChang, 2020 Tokyo, and 2022 Beijing seven Olympics.
Alex covered the September 11th terrorist attacks, the 101st Airborne soldiers’ first training for their deployment to Afghanistan, and the burial of country music legend Johnny Cash before moving to Utah.KPVI in Pocatello/Idaho Falls, Tennessee; WRCB in Chattanooga, Tennessee; News 55 in Twin Falls, Idaho; and Cable 6 TV in Middletown, New York were among Alex’s previous employers before joining KSL. He takes pleasure in traveling Utah’s outlying regions, visiting national and state parks, and playing baseball for the Utah Rockies in the Utah Men Adult Baseball League.
