Jones serves WXIA as a news anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts on 11Alive. He joined 11Alive in November 2016. Further, he has served the station for more than half a decade. Nonetheless, his TV career began in 1988 when he served the Oakland Police Department as an officer. Apart from patrolling the streets of Oakland, he was featured in cable TV commercials related to crime prevention.
Later, he got the chance to write, produce and host many crime prevention and public affairs programs for the City of Oakland dubbed “Bay Area Crime Watch” and “OPD on TV.” The programs featured wanted people in Northern California and crime prevention tips. Moreover, he was promoted to sergeant and became the public information officer for OPD in 1994.
Following the inspiration and mentorship of KPIX reporter Sherri Hu, he left law enforcement and was offered his initial TV news reporter job with a CBS affiliate in Roanoke, Virginia, WDBJ. While there, he got promoted to weekend news anchor and reporter. In 1996, he went on to serve KCRA as the weekend anchor for seven years.
During his tenure there, he provided coverage for everything such as crime and education in the central valley. In 2001, he temporarily left the news business to take care of his sick parents. In 2003, he rejoined the Bay region to join the KPIX family in San Francisco as he co-anchored for the weekend morning programs. Additionally, he served CBS 13 in 2004 as a morning anchor and reporter.
